Discovery+ to Feature Film on Jesus’ Resurrection ahead of Easter

Discovery+, the streaming platform of The Discovery Channel, is debuting a film on Jesus’s Resurrection produced by LightWorkers and MGM.

The film, titled Resurrection, was produced by the same creators as The Bible miniseries that was on the History Channel. LightWorkers broke news of the film on Twitter last week, stating, “Today is the start of Lent and as we countdown the days until Easter we are so excited to share that our upcoming Biblical film Resurrection will be premiering on @discoveryplus March 27th just in time for Easter.”

Discovery’s President and CEO, David Zaslav, said in a statement, “We are honored to premiere Resurrection on Discovery+ and shine a light on perhaps the most important story ever told. The film is emblematic of our ambition with Discovery+ to provide a subscription service for everyone, including premium storytelling for the entire family.  We are thrilled to partner with Mark and Roma on this powerful film.”

The film will be utilizing a rarely used technique that will use a series of library footage scenes and cuts available to the authors from when they filmed The Bible, and put it together in a novel way. The filmmakers chose to make the film this way because of restrictions put in place by the government lockdowns over the Coronavirus. This filming technique has been done before on revered films such as Senna, and They Shall Not Grow Old, both of which have 90 percent + critic and audience approvals on Rotten Tomatoes.

According to the film’s Discovery+ page, the movie centers on Jesus’ followers after Jesus’ death but before His resurrection. “In Resurrection, Jesus’ followers are hunted, leaderless and desperately searching for understanding, but when Jesus rises from the dead, they realize that hope didn’t die on the cross.”
