A gunman who once claimed to be Jesus Christ was shot and killed by Secret Service agents after opening fire near the White House over Memorial Day weekend.
Authorities say the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Nasire Best, had prior encounters with federal officers and was previously arrested near the White House complex. He has been described as mentally troubled.
Best fired several shots before federal officers shot and killed him on Saturday evening near a White House checkpoint. A bystander was struck during the exchange of gunfire.
Social media posts linked to Best also contained troubling statements about President Donald Trump and claims that he was “the Son of God.
