A U.S. Army captain pleaded guilty to intentionally killing his unborn child by secretly slipping the abortion drug mifepristone to a junior enlisted soldier, who experienced severe cramping and had to go to the emergency room.

A military judge sentenced 34-year-old Capt. Brandon Jones-Adams to 12 years in prison, according to a statement from Michelle McCaskill, a spokesperson for the U.S. Army Office of Special Trial Counsel. The judge also sentenced Jones-Adams to forfeiture of all pay and allowances and dismissal from the Army.

Jones-Adams pleaded guilty last week during his trial at the Cascade Court Complex at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state. Jones-Adams also pleaded guilty to domestic violence, fraternization and conduct unbecoming an officer.

“Today’s guilty plea is the result of the exceptional investigative work of Army CID and the dedication of everyone involved in seeking justice,” said Circuit Chief Lt. Col. Tyler Heimann, Sixth Circuit, Army Office of Special Trial Counsel.

“Capt. Jones-Adams’ actions were deliberate, calculated, and malicious. By committing these crimes, he inflicted profound harm on his victim and betrayed the trust placed in him as an Army officer. Today’s sentence holds him accountable for his conduct and provides a measure of justice and closure for those harmed.”

Jones-Adams met the victim in November 2024, and the two began a relationship. The victim became pregnant in May 2025, as the couple completed their rotation in South Korea.

On the morning of Aug. 21, 2025, Jones-Adams poured the victim a drink while she was at his home in Puyallup, Washington. She noticed residue on the cup and suspected Jones-Adams had slipped a drug into her drink.

The soldier went to the military emergency room, suffering from severe cramping and eventually miscarried her child during the 13th week of her pregnancy.

Jones-Adams later confessed to using a fake name to order mifepristone, the first drug used in the abortion pill regimen, which he then slipped into the victim’s drink. Investigators examined Jones-Adams’ cell phone and discovered that the captain made several attempts to acquire the drug from other sources.

“What Mr. Jones-Adams did was a disgusting act that killed an unborn child and violated the victim’s trust and autonomy in the most personal way,” said Special Agent in Charge Michele Starostka of Army CID’s Western Field Office. “When someone crosses that line, we will throw every resource we have into the investigation and make sure they face full accountability.”

In a statement provided to The Christian Post, Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America President Marjorie Dannenfelser cited the case as an example of the dangers of mail-order abortions.

“In stark contrast to America’s 250th birthday festivities, crimes that shock the conscience are being uncovered across the country. The latest case proves no part of society is immune to the mail-order abortion drug scourge killing millions of our children and sending countless women to emergency rooms,” Dannenfelser stated.

“Under the Joe Biden rule that inexplicably remains in place, easy access to dangerous abortion drugs online, without so much as an ID check, enables abusers to harm innocent women and children in places where we rightly expect the highest standard of conduct,” she added. “Week after week, the failure to uphold and fight for our founding promises produces shameful, tragic results.”

The Army captain is not the first man accused of giving a partner abortion drugs without her consent.

Last year, the State Medical Board of Ohio suspended the medical license of Dr. Hassan-James Abbas after he allegedly used his wife’s information to order abortion drugs for his pregnant girlfriend. Abbas’ girlfriend said he pinned her down and tried to force her to ingest the abortion drugs.

Another man accused of forcibly giving his girlfriend abortion drugs, Emerson Evans, 31, of Normal, Illinois, was charged with two counts of intentional homicide of an unborn child in 2025. Evans reportedly inserted four mifepristone pills into his girlfriend’s vaginal area without her consent when she was seven weeks pregnant.

“To the Department of Justice, this has to end today,” Dannenfelser declared. “We echo the founding leaders of the women’s movement in America, who were adamantly against abortion and recognized it as the ultimate exploitation of women, but knew also that there must be prevention and not mere punishment.”

“It isn’t good enough to react after these crimes happen. They can, and must, be stopped. The DOJ has the power to take the first step and end the war with pro-life states over mail-order abortion drugs nullifying their laws,” the pro-life leader added.

SBA Pro-Life America leads over 80 state and national pro-life groups in calling for Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to settle the Louisiana v. FDA lawsuit by agreeing to a court-ordered consent decree to end mail-order abortions while the FDA continues undertaking a safety review of mifepristone.
