The controversial 2024 death of Mica Miller is now the subject of a three-part Netflix docuseries, as federal authorities accuse her widower, Pastor John-Paul Miller, of cyberstalking her until she took her life. Titled “Death of the Pastor’s Wife,” the series premieres Aug. 26.

The docuseries highlights never-before-seen footage and direct accounts from friends and family speaking out for the first time, according to a statement from Netflix published Thursday.

Julia Willoughby Nason and Mike Gasparro, who hold both director and executive producer credits on the docuseries, said they invested in the project to “ask difficult questions” and give Mica Miller a chance to be heard.

“What stayed with us about Mica’s story was how hard she seemed to be fighting to be heard,” Nason and Gasparro said. “We felt it was important to look closely at what she was experiencing and give the people who loved her the space to tell the story of the woman they knew. We made this series to ask difficult questions, listen closely to Mica’s own voice, and make sure that what she was trying to say is not forgotten.”

John-Paul Miller, the 46-year-old former leader of Solid Rock at Market Common in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, was indicted by a federal grand jury in December for allegedly making false statements to federal investigators and cyberstalking his estranged wife for nearly two years until she took her own life in 2024. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges in federal court.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina alleges in an indictment filed on Dec. 17 that Miller began cyberstalking Mica Miller on or around Nov. 16, 2022, until her death on April 27, 2024.

The indictment alleges Miller’s actions were carried out with the “intent to kill, injure, harass, intimidate, or place under surveillance with the intent to kill, injure, harass” and intimidate Mica Miller, who is identified in the indictment as Victim 1.

Prosecutors say Miller used or threatened to use nude videos and photographs of his late wife to harass her and posted a nude photograph of her online without her consent. He further “placed or caused to be placed tracking devices on vehicles” used by Mica Miller in addition to interfering with her finances, banking and daily activities.

Authorities say the pastor “knowingly and willfully” made a “materially false, fictitious and fraudulent statement” to federal investigators by telling them that his late wife called him more than he called her when speaking with local law enforcement.

“The defendant John Paul Miller called Victim 1 at least 50 times more than she called him; he falsely claimed police had never told him to stop contacting Victim 1, when in fact, the defendant, John Paul Miller, was told on March 11, 2024, by a police officer with Horry County Police Department to stop contacting Victim 1,” the indictment notes.

Investigators allege that John-Paul Miller falsely claimed he did not damage Mica Miller’s tires on her car, but it was shown that he “used or caused to be used” a tire deflation device to remove the air from her tires.

Alana Goldstein, another executive producer with Crazy Legs Productions, said they hope the project will honor her voice.

“Although we never met Mica, the time we spent with her family and friends allowed us to feel her warmth and heart as a human who endured unspeakable pain,” Goldstein said. “Our goal at Crazy Legs is to tell a deeply personal portrait of Mica — honoring her voice, uncovering the realities of emotional abuse and coercive control, and remembering her for the light she shared with the world through her faith.”
