A mother and her daughters planned to visit the late Dolly Parton’s Hollywood Walk of Fame star to leave flowers out of respect for the legendary singer-songwriter, only to discover someone had vandalized it.
A woman named Lore Corona, also known online as wildsheroams.life, shared a video this week on social media of Parton’s vandalized star. Corona said she and her daughters went to see the star during their visit to California and wanted to pay their respects to the late music icon.
“One of my daughters had flowers, and we were just going to come and kind of pay our respects; you know, she has done a lot for the world basically,” Corona said in the video.
The star was damaged about 10 minutes before the mother and daughters arrived, Corona said. She showed the vandalized star, which has scratch marks over Parton’s name, then shared footage of her and her daughters cleaning the late singer’s star.
“This was so sad, but we should follow her lessons to always be kind and loving. We were honored to love on her,” Corona wrote.
“When we arrived, a custodian was cleaning and told us a woman kicked candles around then with the shards of one scratched the star,” she explained. “Then a man came and stole the flowers that were there. He left soon after we got there and we got to work.”
Before the incident, the Hollywood Historic Trust, a nonprofit organization that maintains the stars on the Walk of Fame, had scheduled repairs on the star, reports NBC4 in Los Angeles.
“The Hollywood Historic Trust and Hollywood Chamber of Commerce are proud to honor the legacy of Dolly Parton with a replacement of her star. The new star will be available for viewing this Friday,” the organization stated in a Tuesday Instagram post.
Parton received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on June 14, 1984, while promoting the movie “Rhinestone,” in which she starred alongside actor Sylvester Stallone.
The country music and pop star died on Aug. 25 at age 80.
Parton’s nephew, Bryan Seaver, announced her death on behalf of the Parton and Owens family, saying the country music icon “has lived in the light and is in the arms of Jesus.”
During her lifetime, the music icon won 11 Grammy Awards, 10 Country Music Association Awards and seven Academy of Country Music Awards, among numerous other honors.
Before she died, Parton wrote and recorded a secret song in 2015 titled “My Place in History.” The song is locked away inside a box at Dollywood’s DreamMore Resort in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. The instructions state that the box is not to be opened until Jan. 19, 2046.
During a 2022 appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” Parton shared why she recorded a secret song and then sealed it away.
“We do a lot of things at Dollywood, and one year we thought about that,” she told Fallon. “They asked me if I would write a song that nobody would ever hear — I’ll be dead and gone.”
“Well, I might not be cause I’ll be 99,” the singer added. “You know me, I might still be hopping around.”
Parton said the secret song is stored on a CD. She included a CD player in the box, along with instructions on how to play it. The singer then joked that she wished she could dig up the song and replace it with something else, saying that the one she has locked away was “a really good song.”
“If any of you are around when they open that box, well, I hope you enjoy my song,” she said to Fallon’s audience.
