Outspoken rapper-turned-religious-freedom advocate Nicki Minaj continued the public reaffirmation of her Christian faith, sharing Scripture and declaring that she wants to “see my Jesus someday” in a recent nod to the gospel song “I’ve Got My Mind Made Up.”
The traditional church spiritual, which was widely popularized as part of the “Caribbean Medley” performed by gospel artist Donnie McClurkin, was featured in an Aug. 30 post on X by Minaj, who declared, “I’ve got my mind made up and I won’t turn back because I want to see my Jesus someday.” The post has garnered more than 5 million views since she shared it.
A few hours that same day, Minaj followed up with a separate post on X in which she shared King James and New International Version translations of Psalm 36.
“This is what the Lord is saying today. I’d normally only post the KJV, but I think you’ll understand why the NIV may cut through a little more to newer believers. The Lord richly bless you,” Minaj wrote.
The Scripture compares the darkness of human sin and the life-giving love of God.
Her faith declaration came a day before the U.S. Small Business Administration announced that she would serve on an all-star judging panel for the grand finale of the agency’s Million Dollar Pitch Competition. The other judges are real estate mogul Grant Cardone and visionary co-founder of Airbnb and design leader Joe Gebbia. Actor, producer and television host Dean Cain will serve as the show’s host.
Minaj, Cardone and Gebbia will preside over the live finale of the competition in Washington, D.C., on Sept. 18, where five successful entrepreneurial finalists will pitch their small businesses for a chance to win a portion of a $1 million cash prize pool funded by Clover Network, Inc.
The competition was launched as part of the SBA’s Freedom 250 initiative commemorating 250 years of American free enterprise and celebrating the ingenuity, grit and national economic impact of America’s local businesses.
“Great American entrepreneurs themselves, Nicki Minaj, Grant Cardone, Joe Gebbia, and Dean Cain will only add to the excitement of this historic celebration of free enterprise in the finale of our Million Dollar Pitch Competition,” SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler said in a statement.
“From building globally recognized personal and business brands and multibillion-dollar portfolios to launching innovative wellness solutions and digital platforms, each brings a unique, real‑world perspective on business growth and impact. Their presence will be invaluable in highlighting the unique and inspiring stories of the five finalists competing for $1 million in growth capital, and the importance of Main Street businesses in powering American strength.”
Reacting to the announcement, Minaj said in a statement on X that: “This is a major, MAJOR KEY. Sooooooooooo looking forward to this!!! Imagine being a part of the Trump Administration’s initiative to support small businesses. Let’s GO!!!!!!!!!!”
In recent months, Minaj, who Billboard has ranked as the best female rapper of all time and is considered the most successful female rapper in the world, has declared that any Christian who votes for the Democratic Party again “is a fool.”
She also made it clear during a conversation with Erika Kirk, the widow of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest convention last December that she has been reigniting her faith in God following challenges maintaining it during her ascent in the secular music industry.
Minaj, who said she was baptized at age 13 and was taught to pray as a toddler by her grandmother in Trinidad, talked about the faith tensions she wrestled with during her career.
“Sometimes, I would wake up and feel so far removed from … fellowship. I used to go to church on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. Three days out of the week. Then later on your life, you become busy, and you start thinking that ‘God is in my heart.’ … But then sometimes you can be in an industry as well that pulls you away even more,” she explained.
“[S]o lately I’ve been feeling like, you know, like if you haven’t seen a long-lost best friend for a long time, and then you bump into them again, that’s how it’s been feeling for me, like just going back to God and praying and talking to Him,” she continued. “He said to me, ‘Where were you? Where’ve you been? I’ve been waiting on you!”
