Carrie Underwood is expressing gratitude for both her faith and her country after sharing a video of hundreds of American flags displayed across a rural Tennessee property.
The “American Idol” judge and former winner shared a patriotic message with her millions of followers on Instagram over the weekend, posting a video showing hundreds of American flags lining a rural Tennessee property.
“I can’t believe I get to live here,” Underwood wrote in the caption. “Thank you, Lord.”
While Underwood did not reference America’s upcoming semiquincentennial directly, the display of American flags comes as communities across the nation prepare to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence next month.
The post is the latest example of Underwood publicly speaking about her Christian faith, something she has consistently done throughout her career.
Earlier this year, Underwood told The Christian Post that success in the entertainment industry doesn’t require abandoning one’s convictions.
“You don’t have to … sell your soul to make it in the entertainment industry,” she said. “You are going to have to stand strong in your faith and remember who got you here, because it wasn’t you.”
Underwood made the comments while reflecting on the second annual “Songs of Faith” episode of ABC’s hit singing competition “American Idol,” which featured contestants performing Christian and faith-inspired music.
“I love that we were able to … just be joyful and, you know, kind of have some moments of just worship in the front of the world,” Underwood said. “I respect ABC and ‘American Idol’ so much for being bold in this theme, because it’s not easy. I feel like in the world of entertainment in general … it’s not easy.”
While emphasizing that contestants weren’t required to sing explicitly Christian songs, Underwood said the episode gave participants an opportunity to share music that inspired them.
“It’s not like we were making everybody sing about Jesus. It’s kind of like you could take that and sing something inspirational that means something to you,” she said.
Underwood has long credited her faith for helping her navigate both success and life’s challenges.
In a 2019 interview with People magazine, she said some of her most meaningful moments came when she surrendered control to God.
In a 2019 interview with People magazine, she said some of her most meaningful moments came when she surrendered control to God.
“The best moments in my life are when I say, ‘Hey, I can’t control everything, and that’s OK’ [because] God is in control,” she said.
The Grammy Award-winning singer also reflected on the blessings in her life and the importance of gratitude.
“I’ve always wanted to be a good daughter to my parents but also to God and not complain, because we are beyond blessed,” Underwood said.
“I get to do what I love. I have an incredible family. I have [my husband] Mike, I have Isaiah, and I have great parents. I have all of these amazing people around me, and I don’t want to complain, ever.”
