The trailer for the upcoming biblical epic “Daniel And The Fiery Furnace” offers a first glimpse of one of Scripture’s most beloved stories, highlighting the prophet Daniel’s unwavering faith as he confronts the power of ancient Babylon.

The film, from EKKL Entertainment, opens in theaters nationwide on Sept. 18, stars Mena Massoud (“Aladdin”) as Daniel and Elijah Alexander (“The Chosen”) as King Nebuchadnezzar.

The newly released trailer highlights defining moments from the book of Daniel, including King Nebuchadnezzar demanding that Daniel interpret his troubling dreams and issuing a decree requiring absolute allegiance to his rule. It also features sweeping scenes of the fiery furnace as Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego face execution rather than worship the king’s golden image.

“I will stand for my faith and my God,” Daniel declares in the trailer as Nebuchadnezzar pressures him to bow before the empire’s demands.

Directed by brothers Matthew and Daniel Kooman, “Daniel And The Fiery Furnace” follows Daniel’s rise from exile to a trusted adviser within Babylon’s royal court while exploring the courage of three young Hebrews who refuse to compromise their faith despite the threat of death.

Sunjay Midda, Adam Lahraoui and Zaki Ali portray Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. The film is produced by the Kooman Brothers, Travis Mann and Massoud, who also serves as a producer.

According to the filmmakers, the project focuses on the opening chapters of the book of Daniel, with an emphasis on the prophet’s youth and the events leading to the miraculous deliverance from the blazing furnace.

The release arrives as biblical storytelling continues to gain momentum in Hollywood following the success of projects such as “The Chosen” and “House of David.” The filmmakers previously told The Christian Post they hope “Daniel And The Fiery Furnace” introduces a new generation to one of the Bible’s best-known accounts of faith under pressure.

“The Daniel story, after the shutdown in 2020, we kind of had a way into the story that felt really fresh and really applicable to basically Western culture today,” Matthew Kooman said. “There’s a different kind of energy and maybe even suffering that some people experience that was sort of new to Western.”

The brothers also said biblical accuracy guided every stage of production, with pastors, theologians and biblical historians reviewing the script.

“It’s like a tightrope, and it’s also scary,” Daniel Kooman said. “You want to honor it, because it’s biblical Scripture, so there’s really literally nothing else like it.”

The filmmakers said cast and crew frequently stopped during filming to compare scenes with Scripture, keeping Bibles on set throughout production.

“There are quite a few scenes where they’re just literally verbatim, just quoting Scripture,” Daniel Kooman said.

Production took place in India, where the brothers said filming scenes involving Nebuchadnezzar’s golden statue while witnessing nearby idol worship reminded them of just how timeless biblical stories are.

“They stood before kings. Politics was right out the window when it came down to it. They stood for what they believed,” Matthew Kooman said.

“We’re still telling their stories today because of those acts of faith,” Daniel Kooman added. “So can we live with that kind of faith and see God deliver us in our own lives?”
