Forrest Frank gives pastor courtside ticket to NBA Finals

Popular Christian artist Forrest Frank invited a New York City pastor to join him at one of the NBA Finals games last week, prompting both to agree that “God is good all the time.”

In an Instagram reel Wednesday, Frank said he was supposed to perform at Madison Square Garden in New York City that evening only to be bumped by the NBA Finals.

“I was thinking, man, it would be so fun to invite someone who is deserving and could maybe use an encouragement,” he said. As Frank spoke, a caption reading “Help me give away a ticket to the NBA Finals game” appeared on screen along with a basketball emoji.

Frank invited his followers to leave a comment about “someone who should be there.”

“It could be someone who’s just a superfan who couldn’t afford a ticket or someone who just needs that boost of encouragement,” he said.

In an Instagram reel posted later Wednesday, Frank documented a video call he made to local Pastor Matt Sierra of the Manhattan location of V1 Church, a Pentecostal church network founded by Mike and Julie Signorelli. Frank invited Sierra to join him at the game.

“This is the most surreal thing,” Sierra told Frank in response to the offer.

Sierra maintained, “This is a God thing, man,” which Frank agreed with. The caption accompanying the reel stated “GOD IS GOOD. ALL THE TIME.”

Frank shared video of the two of them at the game. An elated Sierra touched the basketball court as he sported a New York Knicks hat. When Frank asked him, “What are your thoughts, bro?” Sierra responded: “God is so real. He’s so much realer than you could ever ask.”

“He’ll do so much more in your life, being faithful with a little,” Sierra added. Additional footage included in the reel showed portions of the basketball game, Sierra enjoying food at the venue, and Frank interacting with professional basketball players.

The pastor shared additional video from the experience on his Instagram account.

In one reel, Sierra expressed hope that “Jesus’ name be lifted up in this city.” As Frank proclaimed, “God is good all the time,” Sierra echoed that sentiment before calling on his followers to “keep believing” and “keep being inspiring.”

“Don’t give up on God because He hasn’t given up on you,” Sierra insisted. “New York City, Jesus is coming, man. He loves you.”

Sierra’s wife replied to Frank’s Instagram post seeking to give away a ticket to the NBA Finals, where she elaborated on his background and love of basketball.

“My husband Matt is [an] NYC pastor, who is also a teacher, and basketball coach in the [South] Bronx. In his free time, [he] volunteers at an amazing nonprofit called @chosen_nyc_basketball where they bring basketball programs across the city and share the gospel to youth. He is a lifelong basketball player and basketball fan who deserves this!!!” she wrote.

Chosen NYC Basketball’s official website identifies the mission of the organization as to “equip and inspire youth and young adults (ages 6-25 y/o) with life and leadership skills through basketball, biblical teachings, and character development.”

The Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs 107-106 in Wednesday’s game. Three days later, they won the NBA championship title by beating the San Antonio Spurs 94-90. The championship victory marked the first time the Knicks had accomplished the feat in more than half a century.
