The final hours of Jesus Christ’s life take center stage in the newly released trailer for Season 6 of “The Chosen,” revealing a glimpse of the crucifixion as the hit biblical drama prepares for what creator Dallas Jenkins calls the “climax” of five seasons of storytelling.
Prime Video and 5&2 Studios unveiled the official trailer Thursday, ahead of the season’s Nov. 15 premiere. The six-episode season will chronicle the final 24 hours of Jesus’ life, culminating in a feature-length theatrical finale scheduled for March 12, 2027.
The roughly 2.5-minute preview follows Jesus, portrayed by Jonathan Roumie, through the events leading to His death, depicting the anguish, betrayal and sacrifice at the heart of the Gospel accounts.
“It was painful to shoot, and it’s painful to contemplate. But if there’s one thing I want you to take away from this season, it’s that Jesus chose this path,” Jenkins said in a statement provided to The Christian Post.
“He even tells the apostles He could be rescued from it if He wanted. He chose surrender and humility and sacrifice. Knowing that should make this story a little less painful. Starting Nov. 15 on Prime Video, you’ll experience the climax of what’s been building for five seasons. Season 5 was the powder keg. In Season 6, it explodes.”
The season explores Christ’s arrest, trial and crucifixion through the perspectives of His followers, religious authorities and Roman officials, examining how each understood the events unfolding in Jerusalem.
“Everyone knows the basics of this part of the story, but not everyone knows the ‘why’ of the crucifixion and the extraordinary events of these 24 hours,” Jenkins previously said. “We realized this not only deserved a season of television but a standalone full-length theatrical event as well.”
Speaking to CP earlier this month, cast members Paras Patel, who portrays Matthew, and George H. Xanthis, who plays John, reflected on the emotional weight of the upcoming season.
Patel told CP he hopes that Season 6 will encourage viewers facing personal struggles, citing the disciples’ journeys of faith, doubts, forgiveness and perseverance.
“Specifically, with Matthew’s journey, forgiveness and going from not being seen to finally being validated and finding his own calling, I think we can all learn from that,” he said. “To anyone out there struggling, feeling down, I hope they look towards ‘The Chosen’ and see how the disciples have carried it through. And you’re going to see that in Season 6.”
Roumie previously described filming the crucifixion as one of the most demanding experiences of his career, calling the portrayal of Christ’s suffering “heavy,” “humbling” and “holy.”
The new season also features returning cast members Shahar Isaac as Peter, Elizabeth Tabish as Mary Magdalene, Noah James as Andrew, Abe Bueno-Jallad as Big James, Vanessa Benavente as Mary, Luke Dimyan as Judas, Richard Fancy as Caiaphas, Paul Ben-Victor as King Herod and Andrew James Allen as Pontius Pilate.
The release comes amid an expanding partnership between Amazon MGM Studios and 5&2 Studios, which signed a first-look agreement in 2025 covering streaming and theatrical distribution of the series’ final two seasons, along with additional biblical and faith-oriented projects.
Under the agreement, Prime Video also carries the first five seasons of “The Chosen” and will stream upcoming projects including “The Chosen Adventures,” “The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls” and “Joseph of Egypt.”
Season 6 will premiere with three episodes Nov. 15, followed by weekly releases through Dec. 6. The season’s conclusion will arrive exclusively in theaters on March 12, 2027.
